Modern hat & 1920s
Timeless elegance meets modernity: From the fedora, pork pie & co.
The 1920s were a decade of new beginnings and stylistic reinvention, the influence of which is still felt in hat fashion today. At the same time, styles emerged that became true icons of style. At Altenburger Hat & Costume, we capture this timeless elegance. We create meticulously detailed replicas of 1920s hats as well as modern interpretations of classics like the fedora , pork pie hat , and bowler . Immerse yourself in our world, where craftsmanship meets individual style.
A hat evolution: From the Roaring Twenties to the present day
The Roaring Twenties brought about a veritable revolution in fashion, which was also reflected in headwear. For women, the cloche hat became an indispensable accessory, perfectly complementing the new, short bob hairstyles and symbolizing newfound freedom. For men, the simple yet incredibly stylish fedora gained popularity, increasingly replacing the top hat in evening wear. Often made of soft felt and featuring an elegant brim, these light, elegant hats were a clear expression of a new attitude to life and a new era.
But some hats have survived the decades and remain enduring style icons:
- The fedora: It's the evergreen of the hat world. Recognizable by its vertically indented crown and characteristic side notches, it embodies a blend of cool casualness and timeless elegance. It was made legendary in film and television by mafia epics and, not least, by Indiana Jones, who never leaves home without his fedora.
- The pork pie: With its flat crown and distinctive, upturned edge, the pork pie is a favorite for those who want to emphasize their individual style. It is often associated with jazz musicians and an intellectual flair, as it expresses a certain "courage to be different".
- The bowler hat: A distinctive symbol of British elegance and classic gentlemanly style. Its hard, rounded shape exudes dignity and a touch of unique eccentricity. Charley Chaplin wore this hat like no other, making it unforgettable.
Craftsmanship that you can not only see, but also feel.
In our Thuringian manufactory, every hat is crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail. We use only select materials such as high-quality fur felt or fine wool felt to give each historical hat not only the perfect shape but also an incomparably comfortable feel.
