What makes the shako so distinctive?

• The imposing silhouette: Its typical, often cylindrical or slightly conical shape with a flat lid and distinctive shade gives the wearer an upright, awe-inspiring appearance.
• Characteristic elements: Enhanced by the metal forehead emblem (often with national insignia or regimental number), the decorative chin strap , the side or front cockade and last but not least, the colored plume (pom-pom) , each shako tells its own story about its origin and unit.
