The shako, often known internationally as Shako, is one of the most distinctive military headgear of the 19th century and a powerful symbol of discipline, regimental loyalty and the infantry of that time.

From the age of the Napoleonic Wars, where it replaced the double-pointed helmet of many armies, through Bismarck's Prussian army, to countless other armed forces worldwide – the shako dominated the scene. Its introduction was often a step towards greater practicality and a more uniform appearance on the battlefield and in parades.
